Seegrid Corp. is seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead the technical direction and development of autonomous fleet management software. This role emphasizes distributed backend systems, modern web-based UIs, and high code quality, including testing, stability, and security.

The position balances technical execution with project leadership and mentorship, ideally based in Pittsburgh, PA, with less than 15% travel if remote.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Autonomous technical driver with minimal oversight.
• Proven mentoring of junior engineers.
• Broad experience designing, implementing, deploying, and debugging distributed systems at scale.
• Proficiency in JVM languages; Kotlin preferred.
• Experience in MacOS and Linux environments.
• Strong understanding of REST, WebSockets, gRPC, and AMQP APIs.
• Experience with Docker/containers and virtualization (VMs, bare-metal).
• Proven PostgreSQL expertise.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve distributed fleet orchestration services for task allocation and robot state management.
• Improve high-availability systems for dispatch, path planning, traffic management, and robot state handling.
• Implement resilient messaging patterns (pub/sub, event streaming, eventual consistency).
• Dig into large codebases to surgically improve or extract functionality.
• Integrate with robot APIs (REST, gRPC, MQTT, VDA5050, proprietary APIs).
• Develop data ingestion pipelines for high-frequency robot/infrastructure data.
• Build scalable APIs for mission control, fleet analytics, diagnostics.
• Optimize data models for competing requirements.
