Job summary

Bankrate seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver scalable, secure systems powering its digital products. This role offers remote or hybrid work with East Coast preference and central NY or Charlotte offices, aligning with EST hours.

You will influence architecture, mentor teammates, and drive end-to-end delivery while balancing cost, performance, and security. The position emphasizes collaboration with product and design across teams.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in multiple programming languages and deep expertise in at least one technology domain.
• Strong understanding of software architecture principles and ability to apply them effectively within team scope.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-based services.
• Proven ability to make informed tradeoffs balancing cost, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Effective communicator, able to influence decisions and share complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Consistently delivers end-to-end solutions independently, from design through production.
• Contributes to improving code quality, design consistency, and operational reliability across the team.
• Models accountability, technical rigor, and collaborative problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable systems within a team or product area.
• Contribute to the evolution of technical architecture and engineering patterns in alignment with organizational standards.
• Build and optimize continuous delivery pipelines, improving deployment speed and reliability.
• Partner with product and design peers to translate business objectives into actionable technical work.
• Scope, estimate, and deliver medium-to-large initiatives with minimal oversight.
• Collaborate across teams to resolve technical challenges, dependencies, and integration issues.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, design discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Contribute to the definition and improvement of team-level engineering practices and technical standards.
• Demonstrate curiosity and continuous learning — evaluating tools, techniques, and technologies that could improve team and business outcomes.
