Job summary

Cornerstone Research is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale infrastructure powering AI applications. You will co-own the platform beneath AI tooling, including inference gateways, containers, and observability, while collaborating with platform and product teams.

This hands-on role emphasizes reliability, security, and developer enablement, with opportunities to shape critical infrastructure used across the firm.

Qualifications

• BA/BS with 4+ years of professional software, platform, infrastructure, or DevOps experience, OR a Master/PhD in a quantitative field with 2+ years in industry.
• Strong fundamentals in system design and builds for high reliability with sensitive data.
• Ability to work across tech stacks and pick up new languages quickly.
• Interest in AI-enabled engineering and AI-powered tooling.
• Experience building AI agents and running in sandboxed environments.
• Deep experience with environment isolation and container solutions like Docker/Podman/Bubblewrap.
• Hands-on observability with metrics, logs, and traces; familiarity with Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
• Ability to articulate tradeoffs and document systems well to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Platform ownership: design, build, operate shared infrastructure for AI applications.
• Own observability: metrics, logs, traces; build dashboards and alerts.
• Hardening and operations: improve resilience and security posture.
• Developer enablement: provide tooling and deployment paths for AI agents.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, data scientists, product managers, and IT teams.
