Job summary

SOPHiA GENETICS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Boston hybrid team. You will design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services and middleware for the SOPHiA DDM platform, integrating with hospital systems to process high volumes of medical data and deliver insights to oncologists.

You will work across the full stack spanning core components, public APIs, and middleware, with a focus on performance, cost-efficiency, and new integrations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a comparable software role with a degree (or higher).
• Proficient in Java for backend services and microservices experience.
• Experience with public APIs, API definitions and change management.
• Database design/optimisation with MySQL, MariaDB, DuckDB.
• Familiar with Linux and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of HL7/FHIR is a plus in healthcare data exchange.
• Able to optimize performance for large data volumes and cloud infra.
• Experience with scalable cloud architectures and containerized infra.
• Observability using Grafana/Loki; ability to monitor and troubleshoot.
• React.js is a plus for front-end work; Micronaut experience a plus.
• Kafka knowledge is beneficial; genomics experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and improve scalable, robust services within the architecture.
• Implement features across core components, API and middleware for new integrations.
• Support live integrations, propose enhancements for robustness based on feedback.
• Ensure performance under high workloads and optimize resource usage.
• Improve deployment workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and infra management.
• Maintain monitoring systems to track performance and bottlenecks.
• Leverage AI tools to boost productivity across workflows.
