Job summary

Formlabs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Desktop team in a hybrid role based in Budapest. You will contribute to PreForm by implementing end-to-end workflows, focusing on performance, rendering, and ease of use for 3D print preparation.

Responsibilities

• Revitalize a mature Desktop app by improving core workflows and reliability.
• Decouple subsystems connecting the app to printers and cloud services; expose clean APIs.
• Handle geometry and rendering tasks including mesh processing and build-plate packing for large scenes.
• Develop tooling, profiling, memory management, CI, and developer workflows.

We are looking for aSenior Software Engineer for our Desktop team with a user focused mindset and strong technical background. In this hybrid role you will be responsible for implementing E2E software workflows, building and shipping PreForm, for ensuring ease of use, including high performing computations and rendering. By joining Formlabs you’ll have the opportunity to build an intuitive, world class print preparation application, PreForm, that enables users to create amazing 3D prints again and again.

This is a Hybrid role which requires weekly presence in our Budapest office.

The Job:

• Revitalizing a mature application - reworking core user workflows, improving the architecture, and raising reliability and observability across a large, long-lived C++/Qt/QML codebase that ships to real users on every release
• Integration - decoupling and hardening the subsystems that connect the app to our printers and to cloud services, and exposing its capabilities cleanly through a developer API
• Geometry and rendering - mesh processing, support generation, build-plate packing, and keeping large, complex scenes fast on ordinary hardware
• Systems and tooling - profiling, memory, build systems, CI, and the developer tooling that keeps a big codebase healthy

You:

• Worked in C++ or any low level language (e.g. Rust); or Clojure, Go
• Can architect reliable systems and work effectively in a large, evolving codebase
• Care deeply about code quality, testing, and maintainability
• Are comfortable with cross-functional collaboration and ambiguous product problems
• Learn quickly, take initiative, and like working on technically varied challenges

Bonus Skills:

• Can lead projects and have experience working with remote stakeholders
• Experience creating automated software build systems
