Eliassen Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in a hybrid Rockville, MD role to design, develop, and maintain data-intensive apps. You will lead and mentor teams while shaping architecture for ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses on AWS.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or Node.js with RESTful API design and microservices.
• Experience with Spark, EMR/Presto/Trino, and Athena for big data processing.
• Design and development of ETL/ELT pipelines and data lake/warehouse patterns.
• Experience with AWS services and IaC tools for modern cloud architectures.
• CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and security best practices.

Hybrid 3 days onsite / 2 days remote in Rockville, MD

Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data-intensive applications that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through correlation and analysis. The role provides technical leadership, participates in architecture and strategy, and ensures code quality, performance, and reliability across the software development life cycle. The engineer will contribute to big data processing, ETL/ELT pipelines, data lake and warehouse patterns, and AWS-based infrastructure while mentoring teammates and supporting production systems in a hybrid work environment within the financial industry.

Rate: $70.00 to $80.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain applications that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through correlation and analysis with attention to code quality, performance, and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, including guidance on responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical strategy, defining solutions and processes that improve efficiency with measurable impact.
• Identify and resolve technical risks and cross-team dependencies early, delivering team goals on time and to a high standard of quality.
• Support production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and simplify code and infrastructure to reduce maintenance and migration costs.
• Apply computer science fundamentals and big data technologies to solve complex business problems.
• Use AI-assisted development tools effectively and review generated output for correctness, security, and quality.
• Build productive relationships with senior partners to remove barriers, align priorities, and collaborate in support of investor protection and market integrity.

Experience Requirements:

• Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or Node.js with strong object-oriented development, RESTful API design, and microservices architecture.
• Experience with big data frameworks such as Apache Spark, EMR (Presto, Trino), and Athena.
• Design and development of ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and streaming data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
• Data lake and warehouse patterns including partitioning, schema management, and file formats such as Parquet, ORC, and Avro, with SQL performance tuning for analytics.
• Workflow orchestration and scheduling using AWS Glue, Step Functions, or Airflow, including data quality, validation, and pipeline monitoring.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Aurora, and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway, CloudWatch/CloudTrail, IAM, VPC networking, and IaC with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• CI/CD pipelines, test automation and unit testing, and software security best practices.
• Nice to have: QuickSight, frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, GitLab CI/CD exposure, and AI development tools such as Amazon Q.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Requires system design experience, cloud and data storage expertise, performance tuning and optimization, DevOps and CI/CD, test automation and unit testing, and software security.
