Senior Software Engineer - Java/Python (Hybrid)

About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer skilled in Java or Python application development to design, develop, and maintain software products that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through advanced correlation and analysis. This role provides technical leadership within the team and requires creativity and sound decision-making to solve broad and complex problems. You will operate independently, drive improvements in code quality and performance, and mentor junior engineers.
Must Haves:

- AWS Glue, Athena or AWS data services
- Some familiarity/understanding with ETL, Spark or similar may be flex on this

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain applications integrating multiple data sources to provide actionable insights.
- Ensure code quality, optimize performance, and adhere to software development best practices.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, guiding responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
- Participate in architecture discussions and help define technical strategy and solutions that improve operational efficiency.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and cross-team dependencies to deliver projects on time and with high quality.
- Support production systems and troubleshoot complex issues while simplifying infrastructure and codebase.
- Apply computer science fundamentals and Big Data technologies to solve sophisticated business challenges.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools effectively, reviewing outputs for correctness, security, and quality.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to align priorities and foster a mission-driven culture.
Required Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Java, Python, and/or Node.js with strong object-oriented design and microservices architecture experience.
- Experience with Big Data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, EMR (Presto, Trino), and Athena.
- Skilled in designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale batch and streaming data ingestion and transformation.
- Familiarity with data lake and warehouse patterns including partitioning, schema management, and file formats (Parquet, ORC, Avro).
- Experience with SQL performance tuning for analytics workloads.
- Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools like AWS Glue, Step Functions, and Airflow.
- Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
- Proficient with core AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway) and cloud infrastructure tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software security best practices.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with QuickSight or other data visualization tools.
- Frontend development skills using React or Angular.
- Exposure to GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience with AI development tools (e.g., Amazon Q or similar) and strong judgment in validating AI-generated code.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience.
- System design experience with a focus on object-oriented development, cloud technologies, data storage, performance tuning, DevOps, and software security.
- Hybrid work model with defined onsite presence requirements.
