Job summary

Eliassen Group in Rockville, MD, seeks a Mid-Level Software Engineer for a hybrid role (2 days onsite, 3 days remote). You will design, build, and maintain applications ingesting multiple data sources to surface insights through correlation and analysis.

You will participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and production support while guiding junior engineers and improving reliability and performance. Strong Java/Python/Node.js and Big Data experience required.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or Node.js with object-oriented development and RESTful API design.
• Experience with Big Data frameworks such as Spark, EMR, Presto/Trino, and Athena.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and streaming processing.
• Understanding of data lake and warehouse patterns, file formats like Parquet/ORC/Avro, and SQL tuning.
• Exposure to workflow orchestration tools such as AWS Glue, Step Functions, or Airflow, with data quality focus.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL/Aurora and NoSQL like DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra.
• Experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway), CloudWatch/CloudTrail, IAM, VPC networking; IaC with Terraform/CloudFormation.
• CI/CD pipelines, test automation, security best practices.
• Nice to have: QuickSight, React/Angular, GitLab CI/CD, Amazon Q.

Our client seeks a Mid-Level Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain applications that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through correlation and analysis. The engineer will work across the software development life cycle, take ownership of moderately complex components, and contribute to architecture discussions while improving reliability, performance, and maintainability. The role includes participation in code reviews, production support, and informal guidance to junior engineers.

Rate: $60.00 to $70.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain features and services that ingest multiple data sources and surface insights through correlation and analysis, delivering clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
• Own moderately complex components end to end from design through delivery and support with limited guidance.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions and contribute technical input to shape team solutions.
• Identify and resolve technical issues and dependencies, escalating broader risks appropriately.
• Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and help apply and improve coding standards and best practices.
• Provide informal guidance to junior engineers and contribute to onboarding and knowledge sharing.
• Apply computer science fundamentals and growing Big Data experience to solve business problems.
• Use AI-assisted development tools with sound judgment for correctness, security, and quality.

Experience Requirements:

• Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or Node.js with object-oriented development and RESTful API design. Familiarity with microservices.
• Experience with Big Data frameworks such as Apache Spark, EMR (Presto, Trino), and Athena.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and preferably streaming processing.
• Understanding of data lake and warehouse patterns, file formats (Parquet, ORC, Avro), and SQL performance tuning.
• Exposure to workflow orchestration and scheduling tools such as AWS Glue, Step Functions, or Airflow, with attention to data quality and monitoring.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora) and working knowledge of NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway), CloudWatch/CloudTrail, IAM, and basic VPC networking. Exposure to IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• CI/CD pipelines, test automation and unit testing, and software security best practices.
• Nice to have: QuickSight, frontend frameworks (React or Angular), GitLab CI/CD, and AI development tools such as Amazon Q.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
