Job summary

LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join the Flyreel Engineering team, focused on property intelligence and risk assessment solutions for the insurance industry. You will design, develop, and mentor others across cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven products.

The role requires 5+ years in software engineering, strong knowledge of Agile/Waterfall, and expertise in multiple data storage subsystems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation and optimization techniques.
  • Understanding of normalized/dimensional data modeling and multiple data storage subsystems.
  • Experience with design and review of complex data models and software components.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with stakeholders to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review detailed specifications for complex system components.
  • Translate product requirements into software designs with the team.
  • Drive development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.

About the Role

This position performs complex research, design, and software development assignments within a software functional area or product line, and provides direct input to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products. This position performs software design — typically across multiple systems; mentors more-junior members of the team; and talks to users/customers and translates their requests into solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve complex technical issues as necessary and complete complex bug fixes.
  • Train entry-level software engineers as directed by department management, ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles.
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments.
  • Design and work with complex data models.
  • Mentor less-senior software developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • Bachelors of science in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation language including optimization techniques.
  • Good understanding of normalized/dimensional data modeling principles.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems.
  • Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, and .Net.
  • Strong research skills and knowledge in industry best practices in development.
  • Knowledge in using and developing applicable tool sets.
  • Ability to interface competently with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources.
  • Knowledge of test-driven development and ability to complete complex bug fixes.
  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $95,300 - $158,800.

Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.

This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
