Job summary

LexisNexis Risk Solutions is hiring for a senior software engineer on the Flyreel Engineering team in the United States. You will design and implement cloud-native data-driven risk solutions for the insurance sector, mentor peers, and help shape cross-functional software products.

You will work across Agile and other development environments, contribute to complex data models, and optimize performance while delivering high-quality software that informs risk decisions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation and optimization techniques.
  • Understanding of normalized and dimensional data modeling.
  • Knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems.
  • Proficiency in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, and .Net.
  • Experience with test-driven development and complex bug fixes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with team members to finalize requirements and translate user needs into solutions.
  • Write and review detailed specifications for complex system components.
  • Collaborate across teams to translate product requirements into software designs.
  • Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in Agile or Waterfall environments with key stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers on development methods and optimization techniques.
  • Design and work with complex data models and storage systems.
  • Stay current with new technology developments and practices.
  • Contribute to cross-functional software products and project plans.

About the Role

This position performs complex research, design, and software development assignments within a software functional area or product line, and provides direct input to project plans, schedules, and methodology in the development of cross-functional software products. This position performs software design — typically across multiple systems; mentors more-junior members of the team; and talks to users/customers and translates their requests into solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve complex technical issues as necessary and complete complex bug fixes.
  • Train entry-level software engineers as directed by department management, ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles.
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments.
  • Design and work with complex data models.
  • Mentor less-senior software developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience
  • Bachelors of science in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation language including optimization techniques.
  • Good understanding of normalized/dimensional data modeling principles.
  • Strong knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems.
  • Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, and .Net.
  • Strong research skills and knowledge in industry best practices in development.
  • Knowledge in using and developing applicable tool sets.
  • Ability to interface competently with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
  • Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources.
  • Knowledge of test-driven development and ability to complete complex bug fixes.
  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $95,300 - $158,800.

Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.

This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
