Job summary

Paychex is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own design, review, and enhance complex client/server and web applications in a SaaS environment. You’ll lead technical decisions, guide a motivated team, and contribute across architecture, database, and UI concerns while driving quality and delivery across the product roadmap.

You will design, deploy, and scale cloud-based solutions, mentor peers, and collaborate with product management to translate business goals into solid software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience or a Masters with 3+ years.
• 5+ years of experience with SQL, Oracle or MySQL.
• Expertise in relational database concepts.
• Strong data storage experience (Entity Framework, SQL, Oracle, MySQL, NoSQL).
• 2+ years with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
• 5+ years of Web Service development (REST, WCF, SOAP).
• Experience with Web Applications (5+ years) and modern front-end frameworks.
• Experience building automated unit tests (MS Test).
• Proven Agile leadership and SaaS experience.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for reliability, availability and scalability of applications.
• Lead design reviews, coding and debugging of client/server software and cloud apps.
• Collaborate with architecture to ensure technical excellence.
• Provide mentorship and technical leadership to team members.
• Support operations during customer escalations and deployments.
• Participate in unit, integration and acceptance testing.
