Job summary

Paychex is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own design, coding, testing, and deployment of client/server and cloud-based applications. You will lead technical direction within an Agile team, mentor peers, and drive architectural excellence across platforms and data stores.

The role requires strong SQL/NoSQL skills, experience with REST/WCF/SOAP, and a background in Web Services development for SaaS environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in computer science, computer engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience, or a Master's with 3+ years.
• 5+ years of Web Service development and building web applications.
• Strong experience with SQL, Oracle or MySQL; relational databases concepts.
• Experience with Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
• Proficient in REST, WCF and SOAP patterns; frontend frameworks experience a plus.
• Proven leadership in Agile environments; SaaS exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, review, and modify programming systems; build, test, and debug client/server software and cloud apps.
• Lead technical direction, mentor team members, and ensure architectural quality.
• Collaborate with product, architecture and operations; support deployments and issue resolution.
• Implement automated unit tests and drive code quality across applications.
