Job summary

Paychex is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own design, development, and delivery of high-volume SaaS applications. You’ll lead cross-functional teams, influence architecture, and drive best practices across the product development lifecycle.

You will work on client/server and cloud-based solutions, implement robust data storage strategies, and mentor engineers in an Agile environment. This role emphasizes technical excellence and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE or related field with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s with 3+ years.
• 5+ years of experience with SQL, Oracle or MySQL.
• Expertise in relational database concepts.
• Strong expertise in data storage technologies including Entity Framework, SQL, Oracle, MySQL, NoSQL (Hadoop, Mongo).
• 2+ years of experience with Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
• 5+ years of Web Service development.
• Strong experience with REST, WCF and/or SOAP, Node.JS.
• 5+ years building Web Applications.
• Strong expertise in front end frameworks (ASP.Net MVC or WebForms, Angular, React, Ember, Knockout.JS).
• 3+ years of experience building automated unit tests (MS Test).
• Experience in a SaaS environment.
• Proven experience leading in an Agile environment.
• Knowledge of common software development concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Developing high volume transactional applications.
• Experience with three or more of: C#, SQL, ASP.Net, PowerBuilder, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript.
• Middleware patterns: REST, Class Libraries as a Layer, WCF and/or SOAP Web Services.
• Data storage technology including Microsoft Entity Framework, Relational Databases, NoSQL Technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, review, analyze, modify programming systems; including client/server software, web apps and cloud technologies.
• Code, test, debug, and resolve issues; participate in build/deploy processes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members; collaborate with architecture team.
• Ensure integration of software across products, platforms, and environments.
• Lead in system design, architecture, and database design; support deployments and iterations.
