Formlabs in Somerville, MA is seeking a Senior SLS Materials Scientist to lead the creation of world-class SLS materials from lab explorations through validation and commercialization. You will push material performance boundaries and work closely with product, hardware, and software teams to translate discoveries into market-ready solutions.

The role requires hands-on thermo-plastic engineering, a strong materials science foundation, and a passion for rigorous testing and documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience bringing a new material to market from ideation to production.
• Solid understanding of fundamentals of materials science and polymer product development.
• Hands-on thermo-plastic engineering experience.
• Passionate about testing and troubleshooting, iterative experiments.
• Ability to design and conduct rigorous experiments to optimize materials.
• Strong documentation practices.

Responsibilities

• Build world-class SLS materials for 3D printing from lab explorations to validation and commercialization.
• Lead research advancing SLS material performance and next-gen solutions.
• Collaborate with product, hardware, and software teams to iterate on material performance based on customer feedback.
• Develop methodologies to evaluate material formulations with SLS print systems, balancing chemistry, dynamics, and printing parameters.

Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization.The annual base pay range for this role is:$115,000—$215,000 USD
