Job summary

Octave is seeking a Site Reliability Senior Manager to lead a high‑performing SRE team and own reliability strategy across production systems. You will mentor engineers, set SLIs/SLOs, and drive incident management end-to-end in a remote-capable environment.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will shape architecture decisions, improve observability, and partner with engineering, product, and security leaders to balance velocity with resilience in a global, distributed stack.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers.
• Deep experience operating large-scale, distributed systems in production on a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized workloads, infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands‑on experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry.
• A track record of leading incident response and turning lessons learned into durable improvements.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across teams and levels of seniority.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and develop a team of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering ownership and blameless accountability.
• Define and drive the reliability roadmap with SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical services.
• Own end-to-end incident management: on-call structure, escalation paths, incident command, and post-incident reviews.
• Improve observability across the stack to detect and resolve issues quickly.
• Champion automation to reduce toil and improve deployment safety, capacity planning, and disaster recovery.
• Partner with engineering and product leaders to balance feature velocity with reliability.
• Manage cloud infrastructure cost and performance to optimize spend without reducing resilience.
• Report reliability health, trends, and risks to senior leadership.
