Job summary

Coherent is seeking a senior silicon photonics test engineer to lead wafer-level characterization and test automation across PIC devices. You will drive RF/high-speed measurements, optical alignment, data analysis, and collaboration with design and foundry teams.

Role entails mentoring engineers, defining test structures, and delivering robust measurement methodologies to improve yield and throughput in a hybrid work environment at our Fremont, CA site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on lab experience in photonics, semiconductor, or optoelectronic device testing.
• Experience with wafer-testing stations and RF probing of semiconductor devices.
• Experience with optical alignment to semiconductor devices.
• Strong understanding of silicon photonic devices and optical coupling techniques.
• Experience developing automated lab or production test systems using Python or similar.
• Strong RF/microwave measurement experience including VNA, S-parameters, calibration, de-embedding.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for wafer-level test and characterization methodologies for PICs and test structures.
• Develop and optimize wafer-level characterization methods for active and passive silicon photonics devices.
• Lead RF and high-speed electro-optical wafer characterization, including S-parameters and frequency response.
• Develop automated optical alignment and coupling methods at wafer level, focusing on throughput and repeatability.
• Create test automation and data-analysis software using Python for instrument control and data processing.
• Analyze wafer-level data and maps to identify distributions, variations, and artifacts.
• Collaborate with device design, process integration, foundry teams to correlate test results with physics and processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and review test plans, methodologies, and conclusions.
