About Vyper

Here at Vyper Industrial, every member of our team is dedicated to excelling mentally, physically, and emotionally. We believe in quality, integrity, and relentless perseverance. We seek top talent, those who are driven to win and be their best. If you're ready to embrace your potential and join a passionate team, welcome home.

Dayne and Dylan Rusch started Vyper in 2020 from Dayne's 400 sq. ft. apartment, having grown up assisting their father in the garage, Chris Rusch, who was a legend in the metal shaping industry. They witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by poorly made products and the decline of American manufacturing. Determined to have a better future, they founded Vyper Industrial with a mission to produce high-quality, American-made garage products and to create thousands of jobs. With a focus on innovation and growth, our team is committed to achieving market leadership.

The Role

We're hiring a Shopify Developer to build everything that lives on vyperindustrial.com: the sections, the templates, the product data, and the tests that decide what we ship next. This role will report directly to the Sr eCommerce Manager on our team.

We think about our theme similar to a retail store. It should be clean, easy to understand, help available when needed, and easy to purchase. Sections should be built once and reused. Marketing should be able to edit content without opening a ticket. Nothing goes live without review, and nothing that goes live should slow the site down.

You’ll work directly with our ecommerce and creative teams, taking briefs and Figma files and turning them into production code. This is a build role. We want someone who reads a spec, spots what's missing, asks the right question in Slack, and comes back with something better than what was asked for.

This position owns the technical execution of our storefront: theme development, custom sections, product and metafield architecture, A/B test builds with intelligence, launch readiness, site speed and website updates as needed since we have limited drops, licensing collaborations, and other promotions going on the website on an on-going basis.

Responsibilities
Front-End & Conversion Development
  • Build custom Shopify sections and blocks from design files, fully dynamic and editable in the theme editor so marketing can manage content without a developer and all built out inside of sections so it's organized and structured properly according to best practices
  • Write clean, well-structured Liquid that follows Shopify Online Store 2.0 best practices and doesn't ever have to be rewritten
  • Develop the conversion surfaces that drive revenue: PDP buy boxes, bundle and variant selectors, comparison tables, carousels, cart drawers, upsell modules, and campaign landing pages
  • Build and QA A/B test variants, including work running through Intelligems, and make sure the variant is a clean implementation of the hypothesis rather than an approximation of it
  • Build mobile-first. Most of our customers meet us on a phone, so that's where your work gets judged
  • Own site speed as a conversion metric. Monitor it, protect it, and push back on anything that degrades it, including apps and third-party scripts
Back-End & Store Operations
  • Create and manage products, variants, options, imagery, and inventory in Shopify
  • Design and maintain the metafield and metaobject architecture that powers dynamic content across the site
  • Own templates, collection rules, navigation, and site content structure
  • Execute product launches and limited edition drops against a fixed date, with everything built, populated, and QA'd before it goes live
  • Keep app integrations, scripts, and tracking implementations clean, documented, and performant
  • Own site readiness for peak events: load testing, offer QA, and a rollback plan before every major sale
  • Suggest process improvements as needed
Process & Cross-Functional
  • Develop on a staging theme, push work through GitHub for review, and merge to the live theme only after approval. Clean branches, readable commits, real pull requests
  • Use Claude, Cursor, and similar AI tools to move faster, and review what they produce instead of shipping it blind
  • Partner with the creative team so what you build matches the design intent and reinforces the brand
  • Partner with our ecommerce and growth leads on what's technically feasible, what a build will actually cost in time, and when there's a simpler way to get the same result
  • Communicate proactively in Slack, be available for calls on short notice, and flag blockers early rather than at the deadline
Qualifications
  • 3+ years building on Shopify Plus for DTC brands, including custom theme and section development. Ideally at brands doing 8 figures or more in ecommerce revenue
  • Strong Liquid skills. You know the object model, understand section and block schema, and build editable sections instead of hardcoding content. This is a hard requirement.
  • Real Shopify back-end fluency. Products, variants, metafields, metaobjects, collection rules, and templates are second nature, and you can architect them rather than just populate them
  • Git and GitHub proficiency. Branching, pull requests, code review, and safe merges to production. You've worked in a staging-to-live workflow before
  • Working understanding of site speed: what causes it, how to diagnose it, and how to argue for it. You should know what a third-party app does to your load time before you install it
  • Hands-on with AI development tools. We expect you to use Claude and Cursor daily and to have judgment about what they get wrong
  • A conversion mindset. You understand why a section is built a certain way and will say something when a design choice is going to hurt conversion or break on mobile. Developers who build exactly what's on the page and nothing more are not a fit here
  • Mobile-first mindset. You build and test for the phone first
  • Comfortable working from Figma files and Figma Dev Mode, Loom walkthroughs, and written briefs. You can scope a build, give an honest estimate, and hold to it
  • Proactive communication. You surface risks, propose solutions, and don't go quiet
Nice to Have (You'll Catch Our Eye If You Have These)
  • Experience with A/B testing platforms, especially Intelligems
  • Experience on high AOV or considered-purchase DTC stores
  • Analytics and tracking implementation experience (GA4, Meta pixel, server-side events)
