Job summary

AMD is seeking a Sr. Rack and Chassis Design Mechanical Engineer for our Austin, TX labs to lead mechanical design for high-density AI server platforms and cooling solutions.

You will drive cross-functional design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and shape the mechanical architecture from concept through production, collaborating with thermal, structural, and electrical teams to deliver robust, manufacturable products.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Senior-level experience in server design and infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes, tooling design, and DFM/ DFA.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a global team to define, design, and integrate mechanical systems for server/compute products.
• Lead mechanical development across server design, system architecture, rack-level integration, and cooling solutions.
• Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles for high-volume production.
• Participate in and lead design reviews, providing actionable feedback to improve quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform mechanical modeling in Creo, tolerance analysis, and system-level mechanical design tailored to AMD’s market segments.
• Contribute to post-silicon development through test planning, characterization, data analysis, and support of customer/reference systems.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers; act as a key decision-maker in design reviews and cross-functional discussions.
• Drive continuous improvement of mechanical design processes and workflows.
• Champion innovation by introducing new concepts, technologies, and methodologies.
• Use independent judgment to solve complex mechanical challenges and influence product direction.
