Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Security Officer III for Vernon State Hospital, Vernon, TX. The role includes senior-level security duties, patrol, incident reporting, and switchboard support in a nonexempt, full-time capacity with a day shift and up to 10% travel.

Qualified applicants have 4+ years in security or 3+ years in mental health security, a TX driver's license, and CPR/AED certifications (preferred).

Qualifications

• Four years or more continuous work experience in law enforcement, security or corrections required.
• Three years or more security experience in a mental health facility required.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date.
• Current CPR/AED certification preferred, willingness to be certified within 6 months required.
• Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct checks.
• Males between 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
• All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrol grounds to monitor and mitigate unusual occurrences and emergencies.
• Monitor and direct daily activities of security officers and adjust shift tasks to meet department objectives.
• Provide security to the hospital campus, open gates, and assist visitors; write reports and document incidents.
• Perform temporary switchboard duties and respond to fire alarms and emergency lines.
• Investigate and document unusual incidents such as thefts, fires, vehicle accidents, or unauthorized departures.
• During supervisor absence, assist with department scheduling and reporting; participate in disaster response or COOP activation.
