Job summary

Form Energy in Berkeley is seeking a Senior Product Security Engineer to design, implement, and verify secure communication middleware and OTA update plans for asset edge controllers.

You will balance hands-on systems software development (C, C++, Rust) with high-assurance threat modeling and formal verification to protect against sophisticated threats, including APTs and supply-chain risk; relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Cyber Security, including architect-level decisions.
• Demonstrated skill at architecting secure systems.
• Practical expertise in symmetric/asymmetric cryptographic primitives, mutual TLS, secure session state management, and designing robust API boundaries for distributed edge-to-cloud systems.
• 2+ years of Application Security experience (finding flaws in bespoke software).
• 2+ years experience directly related to building security tooling.
• Embedded hardware security experience with hardware root-of-trust, secure boot, firmware signing, and HSM/TPM interaction.
• 5+ years of Systems Programming in C/C++/Rust.
• No active U.S. government security clearance required; not an IT GRC role.

Responsibilities

• Secure Middleware Engineering (50%): write production-grade, memory-safe code (C, C++, Rust) on asset edge hardware interfacing with HSE/HSM.
• Asynchronous Protocol Architecture: evaluate DTN standards and architect custom transport wrapping.
• Cryptographic Disruption Handling: build state machines for offline replay prevention and secure local data-at-rest queuing.
• High-Assurance Analysis & Verification (50%): perform static analysis, threat modeling, and formal verification of cryptographic handshakes.
• Adversarial Threat Modeling: design boundaries to withstand APTs and nation-state threats to critical infrastructure.
