Job summary

The Michaels Companies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Security Engineer in Irving, TX, to design and implement advanced security controls across diverse tech stacks.

You will collaborate closely with development, DevOps and infrastructure teams to embed secure coding practices and automate security workflows. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in security engineering, experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), containers, serverless, and strong knowledge of OWASP, NIST and SANS guidance, along with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or STEM.
• 5+ years of experience in security engineering.
• Experience with multiple security components (e.g., firewall and IPS).
• Competency with complete security stack within the discipline.
• Knowledge of secure coding within application development and DevOps practices.
• Experience with security training programs.
• Experience with AWS or GCP, containers, and serverless technologies.
• Familiarity with Agile SDLC and software development lifecycle.
• Experience with web development languages (Java, Python, JavaScript).
• Ability to communicate business risk from cybersecurity topics and collaborate cross‑functionally.
• Active involvement with OWASP, NIST and SANS guidance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex security issues, including security events and threat models.
• Monitor, operate, configure, and remediate security tooling (firewalls, anti‑malware).
• Help implement security processes and standards (e.g., Michaels Secure Coding Standard).
• Develop hands‑on security automation that integrates with DevOps/DevSecOps tools.
• Advance security capabilities and independent security controls and monitoring.
• Leverage internal and external partnerships to achieve business goals.
• Execute systems strategies to support business objectives and resolve cross‑functional issues.
