Job summary

General Motors is seeking an experienced Seating System Design Engineer at the Warren Tech Center. You will lead development of advanced seating subsystems and complete seating systems, coordinating with design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver passenger-focused solutions.

The role emphasizes DFSS-driven development, robust CAD packaging, and collaboration with suppliers to ensure integration with vehicle architectures while balancing cost, mass, and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical components and systems for vehicle programs (10+ years preferred).
• Experience developing and releasing seating systems or related vehicle components.
• DFSS Green Belt certification; ability to balance cost, mass, timing, and content.
• Willingness to travel and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate seating-system solutions meeting customer expectations.
• Lead design, development, analysis, implementation, and validation of complex seat subsystems and full seating systems.
• Perform DFSS-based design evaluations and concept development across vehicle programs.
• Use DFMEA, PFMEA, ICDs, GD&T, and CAE to develop robust system-design solutions.
• Package components and manage CAD development through suppliers and GM designers.
• Coordinate cross-functional PDT activities with Creative Design, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and other engineering organizations.
• Support initial vehicle configuration, cost optimization, product and process improvements.
