Epiq Solutions in Frederick, MD, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across SDR platforms. You will define system requirements, guide architectural decisions, and support programs from concept to prototype delivery and commercialization.

The role demands broad SDR expertise across RF, hardware, firmware, and software, and the ability to translate customer needs into concrete system definitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or related field.
• 15+ years engineering experience with 5+ years in radio or RF hardware.
• Broad SDR system knowledge: RF front ends, digital hardware, firmware and software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to define system architectures, block diagrams and interfaces.
• Experience with system-level trade studies, requirements definition and design reviews.
• US citizenship to work on US Government Contracts.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product management to prepare technical content for proposals and SOWs.
• Engage customers and internal teams to define system-level use cases and platform direction.
• Define and document system and feature requirements for new radio platforms.
• Identify and scope technical trade studies evaluating options and risks.
• Guide scope, assumptions and feasibility discussions with SMEs.
• Develop high-level architectures and interface definitions.
• Lead cross-functional teams through SDR hardware and system development.
• Support lifecycle from concept to NPI, production, field support and retirement.
• Define verification approaches and guidance for data acquisition and review.
• Troubleshoot complex system-level issues by structured analysis.
• Provide technical customer support for SDR integrations.
• Contribute to process improvements in systems engineering practices.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Track milestones and ensure alignment with schedule and budget.
