Job summary

Amazon in Seattle, WA seeks a Senior Manager of Software Development to lead the Apollo deployment platform within the Software Foundation Management organization. This role owns vision, operational excellence, and people development for a multi-team engineering group responsible for Apollo's control plane and deployment automation at scale.

You will guide strategic direction, partner with AWS leadership, and drive initiatives to ensure secure, scalable, and resilient deployments across

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for Apollo's deployment platform, balancing innovation with operational rigor.
• Lead a team of SDMs and Principal/Senior Engineers, building organizational capability while delivering roadmaps.
• Own end-to-end operational posture of Apollo, driving improvements in detection, mitigation, and prevention of large-scale incidents across a globally distributed system.
• Partner with senior leadership across AWS and Amazon to align Apollo's strategy with platform modernization initiatives, including Deployment to native EC2 and Serverless.
• Make high-judgment trade-offs across priorities: customer adoption, platform reliability, security compliance, and engineering velocity.
• Represent Apollo in cross-organizational forums, influencing deployment infrastructure direction across Amazon.
• Build a culture of operational excellence with Tier-1 service ownership and incident response quality.
