Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer for the EC2 Spot team in Seattle, WA.

You will lead end-to-end design and delivery of massive-scale systems, own team architecture, and drive projects across multiple engineers with a strong focus on simplicity, extensibility, and security. You will collaborate with economists, product managers, and other engineers to shape capacity allocation, pricing, and demand-shaping mechanisms while mentoring teammates

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• Experience in econometrics, economic theory, and quantitative methods is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-engineer projects end-to-end—driving design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational readiness for complex systems.
• Own your team's architecture, providing system-wide design guidance for simple, extensible solutions.
• Partner with economists, scientists, product managers, and other engineering teams to shape capacity allocation, pricing, and demand‑shaping systems.
• Set engineering excellence standards, code quality, and robust operational practices; lead architectural durability improvements.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and participate in design reviews to align with long-term direction.
