Job summary

Character Bio is seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist in Translational Biology to lead preclinical mechanism-of-action studies for two clinical programs. The role focuses on deepening understanding of how assets work, evaluating next-generation forms, and exploring new disease applications at the Brisbane, CA site.

This is an hands-on, independent contributor position reporting to the Associate Director, Biology.

Qualifications

• PhD required with minimum 2 years postdoctoral or industry experience.
• Experience building and qualifying cell-based assays that discriminate between variants.
• Strong quantitative analysis and meticulous documentation.
• Proven ability to work independently and in fast-paced teams.
• Experience with in vivo studies and CRO coordination preferred.
• Knowledge of complement biology or ocular disease context is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute and interpret in vitro studies in disease-relevant cell systems.
• Evaluate next-generation forms and alternative delivery for mechanisms.
• Link clinical biomarker readouts to drug mechanism.
• Assess new disease applications and develop relevant tissue readouts.
• Plan and manage in vivo pharmacology and PK/PD studies with CROs.
• Present data and recommendations to diverse scientific audiences.
