Job summary

Genentech in South San Francisco, CA seeks a Scientist 3 in CVRM Research Biology to advance cell- and tissue-selective nucleic acid delivery platforms. This laboratory-based role leads discovery of receptors for targeted delivery of nucleic acids and shapes next-generation delivery strategies.

The role involves establishing cellular models, mechanistic assays, and in vivo biodistribution studies, with collaboration across discovery, vector design, proteomics and disease biology teams.

Qualifications

• PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, bioengineering, or related field.
• Strong hands-on mammalian cell culture and quantitative cell-based assay development.
• Proven record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, or recognized contributions to drug discovery pipelines; collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a strategy to identify, prioritize, and validate cell-surface receptors for selective nucleic acid delivery.
• Establish, culture, and characterize in vitro/ex vivo cellular systems for targeted-delivery evaluation.
• Design quantitative mechanistic assays for ligand-receptor binding, occupancy, internalization, trafficking and endosomal escape.
• Evaluate targeting ligands and conjugates for functional cargo delivery, pharmacodynamics and target gene modulation.
• Apply genetic and molecular perturbation tools (CRISPR, RNAi) to establish receptor dependency and MOA.
• Design and execute preclinical in vivo biodistribution and PK/PD studies.
• Communicate conclusions and milestones across cross-functional teams.
