Job summary

Generate:Biomedicines is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist I to independently lead complex protein production and characterization efforts in support of drug discovery and platform initiatives in Andover, MA.

This individual-contributor role will span upstream construct and expression strategy, mammalian and cell-free production, downstream purification, and analytical characterization, driving scalable workflows and data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, protein sciences, or related field, with typically 4+ years industry experience; or BS/MS with 12+ years related experience.
• Experience leading protein production, purification, and characterization workflows in biotech/pharma.
• Experience with mammalian and cell-free expression, purification across scales.

Responsibilities

• Independently define and execute protein production and characterization strategies across discovery initiatives.
• Lead design, scale-up, and troubleshooting of protein expression workflows.
• Lead purification workflow development from capture to polishing and scale translation.
• Produce high-quality protein material across formats and scales and define quality attributes.
• Integrate expression, purification, and characterization data to identify root causes and inform decisions.
• Lead interactions with CROs/CDMOs and external partners to meet scientific requirements.
• Drive scalable, automated, high-throughput workflows and AI/ML-enabled approaches.
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to an inclusive, high-performing team.
