Job summary

Basecamp Research is seeking a Senior Scientist, Peptide Discovery to join our Boston, MA team. You will validate AI-generated peptide candidates through cell-based assays and develop assay strategies across antifungal, antimicrobial, and cardiometabolic programs.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with AI scientists, and support the establishment of stable receptor/reporter cell lines for new targets. This role reports to the Head of Gene Editing and Early Discovery.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc with hands-on lab experience in life sciences.
• Strong mammalian cell culture experience and aseptic technique.
• Experience with flow cytometry and fluorescent reporters.
• Experience with cell-based functional/signaling assays (e.g., GPCR/cAMP).
• Experience with immunogenicity risk assessment tools (in silico PBMC tests).
• Independent, multi-day assay design and execution.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Culture mammalian cells and perform viability/cytotoxicity assays.
• Run hemolysis and permeability assays for peptide candidates.
• Support GLP-1R activation assays and receptor cell lines.
• Develop and optimize assay strategies and endpoints.
• Maintain detailed lab notebooks and contribute to data summaries.
• Collaborate with AI/Computational teams to iterate peptide down‑selection.
• Mentor junior staff and help set assay development priorities.
