Job summary

Basecamp Research in Boston, MA is seeking a Scientist / Senior Scientist, Peptide Discovery to join our Boston team. This role supports the experimental validation of AI-generated peptide candidates across multiple programmes—including antifungal, antimicrobial, and cardiometabolic peptides—through cell culture-based functional, safety, and developability assays that inform our peptide discovery pipeline.

Qualifications

• PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, bioengineering, or life-sciences field, or MSc with hands-on lab experience.
• Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and cytotoxicity assays.
• Experience with flow cytometry and cell-based signaling assays.
• Familiarity with immunogenicity risk assessment tools and peptide testing.

Responsibilities

• Mammalian cell culture maintenance and routine assays.
• Design and execute cytotoxicity/viability assays.
• Run hemolysis assays using red blood cells.
• Perform cell permeability assays to assess peptide membrane interaction.
• Support immunogenicity risk assessment (in silico and PBMC-based assays).
• Run GLP-1R activation assays (cAMP, reporter formats).
• Support stable cell line establishment for receptor targets.
• Generate dose–response curves for potency and safety endpoints.
• Prepare peptide stocks for cell-based testing.
• Assist fungal susceptibility assays (MIC-style) as needed.
• Maintain lab notebooks and contribute to data summaries and reports.
• Collaborate with AI/compute teams to inform peptide down-selection.
• Assist assay development and mentor junior staff.
