Lilly in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Sr. Scientist/Principal Scientist for Global Sample Management to lead day-to-day sample management operations and own the data behind that work. The role emphasizes process improvement, data governance, and collaboration with discovery teams to enable faster science.

The position may evolve toward data stewardship or operations focus based on experience. Onsite, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and high-quality sample handling.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutics, Informatics, Engineering, Logistics or a related field.
• 3-5+ years of relevant laboratory or sample management or data stewardship experience.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; no visa sponsorship provided.

Responsibilities

• Support manual and automated workflows from registration to powder handling for assay-ready plates and libraries.
• Design and enhance workflows for sample storage and handling operations.
• Assist with instrument qualification, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of lab equipment.
• Build understanding of sample types and handling requirements to determine fit for assay.
• Collaborate with scientific teams to support research context and data governance.
• Serve as steward for physical inventory and data governance across GSM's LIMS platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, and dispensing issues.
• Develop, test, and validate updates to software, hardware, and procedures.
• Perform quality checks on inbound/outbound samples and resolve deviations.
• Coordinate sample shipments and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody.
• Work with informatics/IT to meet evolving data requirements and risks.
• Support material restriction processes and controlled substance tracking.
• Develop and maintain SOPs and training materials.
