Job summary

Lilly is seeking a Sr./Principal Scientist in Global Sample Management for our Indianapolis, IN site. The role focuses on operationalizing sample management, data governance, and workflow improvements across sample types with strong collaboration across discovery teams.

Experience with LIMS and automated handling is preferred. Onsite, full-time position with opportunities to grow toward data stewardship or operations depending on fit.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutics, Informatics, Engineering, Logistics or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of relevant laboratory or sample management or data stewardship experience.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

Responsibilities

• Support manual and automated workflows from registration to powder handling.
• Design and enhance workflows for sample storage and powder handling operations.
• Support instrument qualification, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
• Build scientific understanding of sample types and handling requirements.
• Collaborate with project teams to understand research context behind sample requests.
• Serve as steward for physical inventory and data governance across GSM's LIMS.
• Troubleshoot software, hardware, and sample dispensing issues.
• Develop, test, and validate updates to software, hardware, and procedures.
• Perform quality checks on inbound/outbound samples and resolve deviations.
• Coordinate sample shipments with proper documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Work with informatics and operations to meet evolving data needs.
• Support material restriction processes and controlled substance tracking.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, governance docs, and training materials.
