Job Description

Are you an innovative and self-motivated data scientist with a passion for leveraging AI/ML in computational protein design? Join AbbVie's Discovery Biotherapeutics team as a Senior Scientist, where you'll have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technologies for discovering and developing novel biotherapeutics.

About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will utilize your expertise in AI/ML and computational protein design to drive the development of cutting-edge biotherapeutics. You'll have access to leading modeling tools and collaborate with a cross-functional team focused on protein production and characterization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement state-of-the-art AI/ML methodologies for computational protein design, including fine-tuning protein language models and generative protein design.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in NLP, ML, and generative AI to build novel tools that enhance therapeutic discovery and development.
  • Collaborate with internal experts to optimize the computational discovery infrastructure, offering both individual and team-based innovative solutions.
  • Communicate complex scientific ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Cheminformatics, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, with typically 10-12+ years (BS), 8-10+ years (MS), or 0-4+ years (PhD) of experience.
  • Proven track record in developing machine learning models for chemical and biological data, including AI/ML-enabled molecular generation and affinity prediction.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with cloud computing capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated creativity and the ability to contribute individually and collaboratively.
  • Experience in modeling protein sequence, structure, and function and a history of related scientific publications.
  • Versatile communicator who can elucidate complex ideas to non-specialists and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

Position will be hired based on level of experience- Senior Scientist I or Senior Scientist II.
