Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks an experienced Custodian to perform intermediate to high level cleaning, supervise staff, and maintain school facilities including classrooms, hallways, and grounds.

The position requires GED or some high school and considerable custodial experience, with a preferred high school diploma; training on safety and equipment will be provided. Regular attendance is essential and the role may involve event setup and coordination with school groups.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred; comparable training/experience may substitute minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Head custodian responsibilities may apply in elementary settings.
• Supervise custodial workers and maintain interiors and grounds.
• Unlock/secure doors; clean classrooms, restrooms, cafeterias, and halls; assist during staff absences.
• Set up for events; manage deliveries; respond to vandalism and incidents.
• Coordinate with PTA or other groups for events; participate in safety inspections.
