Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking Behavioral Health Specialists to provide services to students across Hawaii District schools. Positions are at the IV and III levels, with placement considerations based on qualifications and funding, and requirements include a Master’s degree in counseling or related field.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology or social work from an accredited college or university.
• Possession of a current National Certified Counselor credential is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assess behavior by collecting and reviewing history through interviews with the individual and family, discussions with school personnel, and review of records.
• Develop an individualized behavior intervention/management plan with techniques and strategies to interrupt problematic behavior.
• Collaborate with school personnel and other professionals to implement the plan.
• Conduct counseling and skill training sessions to support behavior management and daily living skills.
• Work with family to improve functioning and develop parenting skills and communication.
