Job summary

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is seeking Behavioral Health Specialists to provide essential services to students across the Maui District. Roles include Behavioral Health Specialist III and IV, with the requirement of a Master's degree for the former. Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited university in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work.
• One year of progressively responsible professional post-Master’s experience providing counseling and/or therapy to individuals/families, including helping resolve behavioral problems.
• Possession of a current, valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assess when and why an individual is engaging in problem behavior.
• Develop an individualized behavior intervention/management plan.
• Work collaboratively with school personnel, employers, and other professionals.
• Conduct behavior management counseling and skill-training sessions.
• Hold regular sessions with the individual and family to improve functioning.
• Advise school personnel on appropriate techniques to facilitate plan goals.
• Maintain case records, correspondence, and reports.
