Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Automation Engineer to design SCADA and communications systems for electric grid projects, including substations, Smart Grid, and energy storage applications. You will develop diagrams, PLC/HMI configurations, and network layouts while ensuring CIP compliance.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement, travel up to 30%, and opportunities to mentor junior engineers within the Electric Grid Infrastructure Services unit.

Qualifications

• Essential: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
• 8 years of design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting of substation SCADA and communication systems.
• Experience with SEL, Novatech, & GE RTUs and software.
• Knowledge of DNP, Modbus, SEL, IEC-61850 protocols (serial & IP).
• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Design SCADA and communications systems for substations and distribution automation projects.
• Develop block diagrams, panel layouts, SCADA schematics, and network drawings.
• Coordinate with relay settings engineers for protection relays and IEDs.
• Develop points lists for RTU and master station data transfers.
• Program HMI applications and configure PACs and RTUs.
• Produce SCADA system and network documentation for projects.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and participate in Communities of Practice.
