Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle, WA, is seeking a Senior Satellite Flight Software Engineer to help architect and implement the flight software for the TeraWave constellation. You’ll shape software architecture, drive cross‑functional integration, and set high standards for verification, security, and maintainability across the full lifecycle.

The role demands hands‑on expertise in C/C++, Python, RTOS, and embedded Linux, with 8+ years of space‑grade software experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.
• 8+ years of embedded software experience for spacecraft or mission‑critical real‑time systems.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with RTOS-based embedded software development (Embedded Linux, VxWorks, or QNX).
• Experience architecting flight software or mission-critical embedded software systems.
• Familiarity with software lifecycle, configuration management, CI/CD, and verification/validation for mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, develop, and integrate core flight software for a next‑generation satellite platform.
• Define scalable, reusable flight software frameworks and patterns for multiple spacecraft configurations.
• Architect, develop, and evolve core flight software components including C&DH, telemetry, health monitoring, and fault management.
• Establish architecture standards, coding guidelines, and review practices for maintainability and reliability.
• Collaborate with systems, avionics, GNC, communications, power, propulsion, thermal, payload, and autonomy teams to translate requirements into software implementations.
• Lead software design reviews, code reviews, and technical trade studies focusing on performance, fault tolerance, and portability.
• Support software integration, SIL/HIL testing and mission-representative environments.
• Develop and improve software engineering infrastructure: build systems, CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, debugging tools.
• Contribute to software documentation including architecture descriptions and verification plans.
• Design secure OTA update capabilities and ensure cybersecurity in embedded software.
• Ensure flight software meets cybersecurity principles like secure communications and access control.
