Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Sales Engineer with a proven track record in selling integration, analytics, and data management solutions. This individual utilizes skills in analytical databases, BI/Analytics, and integration to partner with the Sales team and serve as the key technical point of contact for software deals, providing pre-sales support to help convert prospects into customers. A significant part of this role involves scoping, defining, demonstrating, and executing Proof-of-Concepts, working closely with customers and partners to understand their business needs, mapping our offerings to those needs, and providing competitive analysis to effectively position our solutions.

This person should have a broad range of skills from data architecture to ETL, security, performance analysis, and analytics. They must have the insight to connect a customer’s specific business problems with Actian’s solutions, communicate that connection effectively to technical and executive audiences, and provide consultative assistance on architecture as a trusted technical advisor.

Additionally, the candidate should share our vision of reinventing the data platform and thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to ensure success for Actian and our customers. Staying up-to-date with evolving data and analytics technologies is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively across various teams inside and outside the company.

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Be a technical guide on all aspects of Actian product technology.
  2. Collaborate with Sales and Partner teams to identify and close new business opportunities.
  3. Provide strategic pre-sales support, including needs analysis, technology review, requirements definition, and scoping.
  4. Create and deliver compelling product presentations and demonstrations tailored to prospect, customer, partner, or internal needs.
  5. Work with customers and partners on proof-of-concept projects in competitive environments.
  6. Maintain a deep understanding of competitive and complementary technologies and vendors, and how to position Actian against them.
  7. Offer guidance on resolving customer-specific technical challenges.
  8. Work with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing to improve Actian’s products and marketing strategies.
  9. Research companies and prospects to identify business issues and needs, sharing findings to support our recommendations.
  10. Become an expert in our products’ features, benefits, and applications.
  11. Provide proactive support to facilitate sales and foster positive relationships with customers and partners.
  12. Advocate for Actian products in architectures and deployments.
  13. Serve as a customer advocate and liaison for product management and development.

What You Bring to Actian:

  1. Proven leadership qualities, capable of guiding less experienced SEs and handling responsibilities independently.
  2. Data-centric approach with a focus on evidence-based problem resolution.
  3. 5 to 7+ years of experience in technology roles such as Pre-sales Engineer or customer-facing Consultant in data environments.
  4. Solid understanding of enterprise software sales, including qualifying prospects both technically and from a business perspective.
  5. Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  6. Exceptional presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.
  7. Comprehensive understanding of the data analytics stack, from ETL to BI tools.
  8. Strong skills in integration, databases, data warehouses, and data processing.
  9. Hands-on expertise with SQL and SQL analytics.
  10. Successful track record selling data and analytics software to enterprise customers.
  11. Extensive knowledge of relational and large-scale analytics databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, Netezza, Teradata).
  12. Software development experience with C/C++ or scripting with Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash.
  13. Experience with non-relational platforms and large-scale data processing tools like Hadoop, HBase.
  14. Familiarity with BI and data exploration tools such as PowerBI, Looker, Tableau.
  15. Experience with connectivity technologies like ODBC, Spark, JSON.
  16. Understanding of cloud infrastructure platforms such as GCP, AWS, Azure.
  17. Experience implementing ETL pipelines using various tools.
  18. Experience supporting enterprise SaaS applications.
