Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an experienced communications professional to join our Platform & Research Communications team in San Francisco. The role partners with researchers and cross-functional teams to shape how safety research is understood by researchers, journalists, policymakers, and the broader public.

You will develop and execute external communications strategies around safety research, translating complex work into clear, credible narratives.

Qualifications

• Must have strong writing and editing skills with ability to adapt tone for expert and general audiences.
• Experience translating complex technical work into clear, credible external narratives.

Responsibilities

• Shape safety research narratives and connect them to OpenAI's roadmap.
• Partner with researchers to understand work and help position ideas publicly.
• Lead proactive storytelling across blogs, explainers, video, podcasts, events, and more.
• Support launches for major papers, evaluations, and safety initiatives.
• Lead media engagement with science, tech, AI and business journalists.
