Job summary

MWRA is seeking a Senior Safety and Environmental Health professional to lead safety, health and hazard prevention programs at Deer Island Treatment Plant. This role oversees contractor safety, advises staff on chemical handling, and coordinates emergency response per DITP guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, occupational health, safety or related field.
• Seven years of professional safety/environmental health experience, including some construction.
• Three years in supervisory/managerial or project management capacity, or equivalent.
• Massachusetts driver’s license; OSHA 40-hour training and 8-hour refresher; First Aid/CPR within six months.
• CHST certification or ability to obtain within twelve months; on-call weekend/after hours.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements safety/health policies to promote a safe work environment.
• Oversees safety training programs and contractor safety plans for MWRA interests.
• Serves on the Emergency Response Team and leads ERT in supervisor’s absence.
• Reviews injury reports and initiates corrective actions based on trends.
• Manages safety audits, contractor safety programs, and hazard control strategies.
• Provides guidance on chemical handling, storage, and hazardous waste management.
