Job summary

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) seeks an experienced safety and environmental health professional to develop and administer programs at Deer Island Treatment Plant. You will oversee safety plans, contractor compliance, and emergency response readiness to protect workers and the community.

The role emphasizes hazard control, training, and regulatory compliance with OSHA/EPA standards; leads safety audits, on-call coverage, and collaboration with MWRA teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, occupational health, safety, or related field.
• 7+ years safety/environmental health experience with construction exposure.
• 3+ years supervisory/managerial experience.
• Massachusetts driver's license.
• 40 hours OSHA training with annual refresher.
• First Aid and CPR certification within six months.
• CHST certification or higher or ability to obtain within twelve months.
• On-call coverage to support MWRA in safety matters.
• On-call rotation for Occupational Health and Safety.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements occupational safety and health policies and programs to promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements with respect to physical, biological, mechanical and chemical hazards.
• Collaborates with the Director, Occupational Health and Safety and the Project Manager, Safety to administer and update safety and health training programs with department managers and employees, and coordinates with the Training Unit.
• Serves as member of the DITP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and as an emergency responder. In the absence of the other Program Manager, Safety who leads the ERT, supervises team members and handles training and deployment of the team.
• Reviews materials such as Accident/Loss Reports and Injury/Illness reports. Initiates programs to identify safety and health hazards. Initiates corrective action based on statistical trends.
• Reviews and accepts Health and Safety Plans submitted to the MWRA to ensure that contractors and sub-contractors have a plan to address the recognized hazards, including training, assigned Safety liaison, and identified and addressed risks through hazard control strategies.
• Manages safety audit programs. Conducts weekly safety tour inspections to identify recognized safety and health hazards and documents reports. Initiates corrective action based on statistical trends.
