Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff RTOS Embedded Architect 5 for on‑site work in Northridge, CA. You will define and lead complex real‑time embedded software architectures for weapon systems, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet safety, security, and performance requirements.

The role emphasizes deterministic scheduling, IPC, and HAL/OSAL layers, with mentorship of engineers and hands‑on design, coding, and integration in an Agile setting.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or related field with extensive embedded software experience.
• Proven software architect or technical lead for embedded systems.
• Expertise with major RTOS (VxWorks, ThreadX, FreeRTOS, Green Hills INTEGRITY).
• Experience in low‑level embedded software development and debugging.
• Design multi‑threaded, real‑time systems with strict constraints.
• Strong C/C++ skills; familiarity with Java/Python/C#.
• Current US Government DoW Secret clearance with SAP eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead architectures for RTOS‑based embedded devices and systems (multi‑core, distributed nodes, safety‑critical).
• Design, develop, test, and debug system software including low‑level drivers and board bring‑up.
• Create and maintain hardware‑abstraction and OSAL layers for portable embedded software.
• Define architectural guidelines, coding standards, and design patterns across cross‑functional teams.
• Participate in all phases of the SDLC in an Agile environment, including requirements verification and validation.
• Lead integration of RTOS (VxWorks) ensuring deterministic scheduling and IPC.
• Mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and provide guidance across HW, SW, and Systems teams.
