Job description

Senior Robotics Software Engineer (Motion Planning & Multi-Agent Systems)

Compensation: Target Range $180,000-$225,000+ Depending on Experience, Level, and Demonstrated Expertise

About the Opportunity

A Denver-based innovative robotics company is developing advanced autonomous systems that operate in highly dynamic, real-world environments where multiple robots must coordinate safely, efficiently, and at scale.

This is a rare opportunity to join a small, highly technical engineering team and directly influence the architecture, algorithms, and deployment of next-generation robotics systems. The company offers a unique combination of deep technical challenges, startup ownership, and the ability to see your work deployed in production environments.

Join a collaborative team of approximately 20+ employees where individual contributions directly influence product architecture, deployment strategy, and company growth.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior to Principal Robotics Software Engineer with deep expertise in Motion Planning, Multi-Agent Path Finding (MAPF), Autonomous Robotics Systems, C++, Linux, and ROS2.

You will lead the development of planning and coordination algorithms that enable fleets of autonomous robots to operate collaboratively in constrained environments. Success in this role requires balancing theoretical rigor with practical implementation, developing solutions that are safe, scalable, and robust enough for real-world deployment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex planning problems, scaling autonomous systems, and mentoring other engineers while remaining highly hands-on technically.

What You'll Work On
  • Design and implement advanced motion planning and multi-agent coordination algorithms
  • Solve complex Multi-Agent Path Finding (MAPF) problems in production robotics environments
  • Develop scalable planning systems that optimize throughput, efficiency, and resource utilization
  • Improve autonomy, decision-making, and real-time coordination across robotic fleets
  • Build robust planning frameworks capable of handling failures, dynamic conditions, and operational constraints
  • Conduct large-scale validation through simulation and testing environments
  • Collaborate with software, systems, and robotics engineers to bring solutions into production
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Help shape long-term planning architecture and autonomy strategy
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, preferably within robotics, autonomy, or related domains
  • Strong expertise in modern C++
  • Experience with ROS2 (Robot Operating System)
  • Proven background in:
  • Motion Planning
  • Autonomous Navigation
  • Multi-Agent Systems
  • Multi-Agent Path Finding (MAPF)
  • Distributed Robotics Coordination
  • Practical experience with A*, Conflict-Based Search (CBS), MAPF, MAPD, or related planning methodologies
  • Strong understanding of algorithm design, performance optimization, and computational complexity
  • Experience deploying algorithms into real-world robotic systems
  • Ability to balance research-driven approaches with practical product delivery
Highly Desired Experience
  • Advanced expertise in Conflict-Based Search (CBS) and related MAPF algorithms
  • Autonomous vehicle systems
  • Warehouse automation robotics
  • Fleet orchestration and robot coordination
  • Simulation, testing, and validation environments
  • Docker, Git, and cloud-based evaluation infrastructure
  • Advanced degrees in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
Ideal Backgrounds

We are particularly interested in candidates from organizations focused on:

  • Warehouse automation and autonomous material handling
  • Autonomous vehicle platforms
  • Robotics fleet orchestration
  • Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
  • Industrial robotics and automation
  • Multi-agent planning and coordination systems

Experience at leading autonomy, warehouse robotics, industrial automation, or multi-agent robotics companies is highly relevant.

Real-World Deployment Matters

We value engineers who have successfully deployed robotics planning systems into real-world environments. While advanced academic research is appreciated, hands-on experience solving planning and coordination challenges in production systems is more important than purely theoretical expertise.

What Makes This Opportunity Different
  • High-impact role with direct influence on product and technical direction
  • Opportunity to solve difficult real-world robotics problems at scale
  • Small team environment with significant ownership and visibility
  • Equity participation in a high-growth robotics company
  • Ability to work closely with executive and engineering leadership
  • Multiple new deployments and expansion initiatives planned over the next several years
  • Opportunity to help build foundational technology as the company enters a significant growth phase
  • Onsite Monday-Friday strongly preferred
  • Relocation assistance available
  • Base salary: $180,000-$225,000+ depending on experience and level
  • Relocation assistance available
