Job summary

Boston Dynamics is seeking an R&D Field Service Engineer to lead repair and maintenance of complex prototype electromechanical subsystems. You will troubleshoot failures, create repair runbooks, and work with design engineers to advance prototypes toward reproducible assemblies.

You will plan equipment, timelines, and spaces, guide the team through challenges, and collaborate with project managers to ensure alignment on goals and milestones.

Qualifications

• Experience with maintenance and repair workflows.
• Proficiency with repair ticketing tools such as JIRA.
• Hands-on experience building and debugging electro-mechanical test setups.
• Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes.
• Experience with communication interfaces CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C.
• Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities.
• Clear and effective communication of test results and data.
• Mentoring and fostering a culture of excellence and best practices.
• Experience working in a collaborative setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute repair and maintenance of complex prototype electromechanical sub-assemblies.
• Troubleshoot root causes of electrical system failures in sub-assemblies and robots.
• Create repair runbooks and procedures with minimal guidance; recommend corrective actions to design engineers.
• Iterate and improve prototype designs with design engineers toward reproducible assemblies.
• Plan repair equipment, work spaces, and timelines with managers and engineers.
• Lead technical aspects of repair projects and optimize repair processes.
• Collaborate with Manager/Technical Program/Project Manager to define goals, scope, and timelines.
• Foster clear communication to ensure alignment on project objectives and timelines.
