Job summary

GrayMatter Robotics Inc. in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a Senior Robotics Design Engineer for Government Projects. You will lead design, integration, and testing of complex robotic systems, including six-axis robots, EOAT tooling, and safety-compliant workcells.

You will collaborate with hardware, software, and vendor teams to optimize layouts, perform structural analyses, and prototype components with DFMA in mind, while supporting export-control requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of robotic system design and integration experience, with six-axis industrial robots as the primary platform.
• Experience designing 6DOF robot automation systems, including reach and layout studies and EOAT design.
• SolidWorks expert level; 3D modeling and development of 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Familiarity with motion control systems, robotics programming, and industrial facilities and equipment.
• Ability to solve technical problems effectively, efficiently, and independently.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and integration of six-axis robotic systems for industrial applications.
• Create 3D CAD assemblies and optimize robotic manufacturing cell layouts end to end.
• Design and iterate on robotic workcells, EOAT, and tooling with vendors, ensuring safety compliance.
• Prototype hardware with DFMA in mind, using 3D printers, CNC machines, and related tools.
• Select electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic components; integrate motors, sensors, and cabling with software teams.
• Troubleshoot and test existing hardware and automation systems; push for robustness improvements.
• Lead mechanical risk assessments and ensure designs meet ISO 10218-1/-2 and ANSI/A3 safety standards.
