Job summary

1X is hiring a Senior Safety Compliance Engineer to own safety strategy across humanoid robotics projects. You will translate evolving standards into concrete engineering requirements, guide test plans, and coordinate with internal teams and external labs to drive certification from design through final approval.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in product safety, safety compliance, certification, or a related engineering role involving robotics or autonomous systems.
• Strong knowledge of robotics, battery, electrical, and materials safety standards (e.g., ANSI/CAN/UL 3300, ISO 12100, ISO 13849-1).
• Experience applying system safety methods (risk assessment, FMEA/FMEDA, STPA) and verifying risk reduction.
• Ability to translate standards into engineering requirements, design guidance, and test procedures.
• Experience working with test organizations, labs, and certification bodies.

Responsibilities

• Own safety compliance strategy and certification plans for humanoid robot systems.
• Translate safety standards into engineering requirements, design guidance, verification methods, and acceptance criteria.
• Partner with hardware, software, labs, and external certification bodies to achieve certification milestones.
• Define safety requirements early in product development and close compliance gaps before validation.
• Define and oversee safety testing procedures, criteria, and lab coordination.
• Maintain objective evidence: test results, compliance rationale, and traceability.
• Lead investigations and corrective actions for safety issues and verify effectiveness.
• Monitor evolving standards and represent 1X in relevant industry activities.
