Job summary

Motion Recruitment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on Robotics and AI integration for an engineering consulting firm in Wilmington, MA. This full-time onsite role involves owning the integration layer between AI/ML models and physical systems, coordinating with ML, hardware and mechanical teams.

You will work on real-time control loops, fieldbus interfaces, and robust software across the stack, ensuring performance under strict tolerances.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in systems or robotics software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ and Python for tooling and automation.
• Experience with ROS / ROS 2 in industrial robotics environments.
• Hands-on experience interfacing with industrial robot controllers (FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots, Yaskawa, etc.).
• Familiarity with fieldbus protocols (EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, Profinet).
• Knowledge of real-time Linux (PREEMPT_RT) or RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, QNX).
• Ability to isolate failures across software, firmware, hardware, and interfaces.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: Git, code reviews, testing, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Own the integration layer between AI/ML models and physical systems.
• Work with ML engineers and hardware/mechanical teams to understand system limits.
• Develop and maintain real-time control loops and interfaces across the stack.
• Ensure robust debugging and latency management across software and hardware boundaries.
• Hands-on coding and integration work — 80% of the time; collaboration 20%.
