Job summary

Motion Recruitment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in robotics and Physical AI integration to own the integration layer between AI/ML models and the physical systems they control.

You will design and implement software spanning ROS 2 nodes, real-time control loops, embedded interfaces, and industrial fieldbus communication, partnering with ML, hardware, and mechanical engineers to define interfaces, latency budgets, and safe system behavior.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of systems or robotics software engineering experience shipping software that controls physical hardware in production
• Proficiency in C/C++, with Python for tooling and test automation
• Hands-on ROS or ROS2 experience including nodes, services, actions, launch, tf2 and hardware interfaces
• Experience integrating vendors' robot controllers (FANUC, KUKA, ABB, UR, Yaskawa)
• Production experience with industrial fieldbus protocols (EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, Profinet)
• Experience with embedded interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, GPIO) and signal-level debugging
• Experience with RTOS or real-time Linux and understanding latency, scheduling, jitter, determinism

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software linking ML inferences to motion controllers and actuators
• Develop ROS 2 nodes, hardware abstraction layers, device drivers, and industrial stacks
• Build real-time control loops on Linux/RTOS managing latency and determinism
• Integrate machine vision and camera systems with calibration and control logic
• Create hardware-in-the-loop and integration tests across software, firmware, hardware, and interfaces
