Goddard Technologies, Inc. in Wilmington, MA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the integration layer between AI/ML models and physical systems. You will manage the full stack from fieldbus communication to software interfaces enabling models to operate on real hardware.

You will collaborate with ML, hardware, and embedded teams to define contracts, latency budgets, and robust integration. A strong background in ROS, real-time systems, and industrial protocols is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in systems or robotics software engineering with a demonstrated track record shipping software that controls physical hardware in production.
• Proficiency in C and C++ with Python for tooling, scripting, and test automation.
• Hands-on ROS/ROS 2 experience writing nodes, services, actions, and hardware interface layers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software that integrates ML model inference outputs with physical hardware such as motion controllers, servo drives, actuators, and industrial I/O.
• Develop ROS 2 nodes, hardware abstraction layers, and device drivers for robotics hardware.
• Implement and own communication stacks across EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, and Profinet for production systems.
• Interface with robot controllers (FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots, Yaskawa); translate capabilities into software requirements.
• Interface with embedded hardware via SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, CAN; collaborate with embedded engineers on cross-boundary interfaces.
• Integrate machine vision and camera systems, including pipelines and calibration, routing outputs to control and inference logic.
• Define inference APIs, data contracts, and budgets with ML team; ensure latency constraints are met.
• Develop real-time/near real-time control loops on Linux PREEMPT_RT and RTOS targets, considering scheduling and determinism.
• Build HIL and integration test infrastructure for validation with/without live hardware.
• Document architecture, contracts, timing assumptions, and procedures for engineers and regulators.
• Identify integration risks and hardware/software boundary issues before field problems arise.
